Sticking it to the Man

I live in Monticello Apartments, a complex just south of BYU campus (the one closest to the Botany Pond). For the past year and a half or so we've had some managers who just do a terrible job at managing. We've been lied to, they've breached contract on several occasions, and when people move out deposits are withheld with no or little reason given. When notices ARE given about problems, they are usually vague or downright false.

Recently eleven people in my ward, myself and some roommates included, were told we would not be able to renew our contracts after the current ones are through. I was not planning on living here past Spring, so leaving two months earlier isn't any big deal. I was frustrated, though, that no reason was given for their dislike of me other than being "negative and confrontational." Apparently signing a petition that expresses a desire for greater communication between management and tenants fits this description. I've been a tenant for almost 3 years and have never given management any problems other than one or two months of rent payments that were one or two days late. What really chapped my hide, though, was when I heard of other, more-stalwart tenant-friends of mine who received even nastier letters with more controversial accusations and amazingly-condescending language. They in no way earned the treatment they received.

If you or anyone you know are thinking about moving in here, I strongly encourage you to rethink that option. Yes, the location is great and the ward is fantastic, but you WILL be pushed around by managers and there will be very little you can do about it because they don't break the law, aside from contract breaches -- which, when attempting to redemy, result only in being told to refer to BYU Off-Campus Housing, which doesn't give a hoot.

Please visit www.radiofreemonticello.info , a Wiki site, for more information, which should soon include evidences of above claims. Refer this site to any friends who are looking for housing.

Sorry for the long, whiny post, but I'm tired of seeing innocent, awesome people get pushed over by someone who would be a great guy if he only knew how to work with people.

hello the shark. i mostly wanted to leave a comment back on your blog since you put one on my very neglected blog, and the monti-ghetto post seemed the most appropriate place to do so. sorry to hear about all the trouble there but at least i'm sure it added to the collage on the back of the door. glad to hear the ruthinaidr (mine and ruthie's names combined) posters were put to good use. where did you hang them since you were kicked out onto the streets? let me know what you've been up to these days. you can email me to avoid having to leave any more comments on my essentially inactive blog (i'm lazy :( ) supyo923@yahoo.com
