BACKGROUND:
My roommates and I moved to a new part of the neighborhood, and we introduced the concept of Oscars Night to the people on our block. They thought the idea was fun, so we went with it! Of course, we took the competition a little more seriously than most other groups, perhaps because we had been doing this longer than them.
We did a concept I'd been toying around with in my head for quite some time. I thought it would be fun to take a mellow-seeming guy and turn him into a techno star. This is my old roommate, Isaac.
We won the competition, though it really wasn't a big deal.
CRITIQUE:
The video is definitely one of those where it is much more enjoyable if you know the people. I tried getting past that, but I don't think it was very successful. Oh, well. I think it would have been much more impacting if we would have had our big dancing scenes actually choreographed. Unfortunately, our choreographer was so busy that she didn't have time to do her job. I had envisioned the last scene as being much more organized. As it is, the best scenes are probably the breakfast one and the hockey one.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
-The ska song at the end is from my old roommates' band Buttonhooked! I really wanted to find a way to work that song in there. And I did.
-For our big dance number, we tried using the same stage that we used in Unibrow, Inc. Unfortunately, security in the building was inconsistent and kicked us out of there. We had to resort to using the parking lot of a nearby business complex.
